Cyclone Oma

With winds gusting to 45 knots we drove over to see the high tide effect at Rainbow Beach, having heard on the radio of the coloured sands eroding and creating a colourful sea along the coast.
Intrepid campers were still braving the winds at Inskip Point and many campsites were inundated.

By the time we reached Rainbow Beach all power was out and tourists like us were strolling the streets in search of a coffee.  Many shops had given up and closed for the day, not knowing when the power would be back on.  The best we could manage was bottled iced coffee, but the bakery still had cakes, bread and muffins, cash only!

By lunch time we found that the wood fired pizza restaurant was still offering pizzas and anything they could cook in the oven, so we shared a delicious Popeye Pizza with local scallops, prawns, spinach, capers and anchovies – YUM!!

Meanwhile, back at Tin Can Bay, while many boats had moved into the marina, several boats had broken their moorings or dragged anchors and drifted towards the collection of sand bars at Norman Point.  As the tide drops a few masts are on the lean, and with a few more days of high winds to come, let’s hope there’s not too much damage.
